I'm fully against the death penalty, although I also understand why people would support it. For me, not only has it been shown not to work, it is much more expensive than keeping someone imprisoned for life, and I think imprisonment for life is a greater punishment, but, if just ONE innocent person dies this way, I can't support it.

There were a long time when we don't speak, hate each other, and the pain he caused us is still there..
but I guess time makes you forgive without necessarily to forget. And maybe his situation where he is always threatened with being locked away for good or maybe died that really make you let it go because you might not see him again..

Killing the aggressor is a faster way to deal with the problem and that's how history has showed us.And we know history is not very kind indeed!The cycle hardly breaks except for compassion,forgiveness and love.The question is how does one show these to an aggressor? That's not easy at all,I say! For myself,I feel and believe that we are all one and the same.When I am this way,my pain and joy is yours too.And yours is mine.We shouldn't feel separated and that's exactly what inclusitivity aims to achieve.Thru' this I believe there's great hope :)

but have all criminals stop their crimes due to this harsh punishment !!. How about the rates of the crimes in countries where the death penalty is there and countries that don't allow it !!. I feel like it's a kind of deterrence but is it working? .

Thank you for sharing the personal aspect of this challenging topic. I am fully against the death penalty. There is very good evidence showing that it is not a deterrent to crime. For that reason, and the risk of miscarriage of justice most countries have abolished the death penalty, and many who still have it don't apply it. That includes Muslim countries. Saudi Arabia, Iran, China, and the USA are exceptions internationally.

I am glad your brother was spared greater punishment, and I hope he finds a way to function better in society on his release.

It's a mechanism: Deterrence is the point in the first place. The violent punishment is nothing but to deter the criminal before committing the crime. Personally I find the punishments harsh.. and make me feel sick!! Just if all criminals thought of the punishment and felt sick before committing a crime.. then the hero wouldn't have to kill a criminal at the end of the show!!.
